Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two main suspects in connection with the death of 12-year-old Srabanti Ghosh here two days back. The two suspects, Pradeep Lal Ghosh and Ajay Singh, were apprehended from Bhandari Market of the Lalkhan Bazar area in the city today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Srabanti’s parents live in a rented house near the Panir Tank area of Lalkhan Bazar under Khulshi thana. Both parents are garment workers. During their office hours, Srabanti used to stay at her grandparents’ home nearby. On Tuesday evening, she returned to her own house without informing her grandparents. Later that night, around 11:30 pm, she was found hanging from the ceiling of the house with a veil around her neck.
Srabanti’s mother, Rosy Ghosh, lodged a complaint with Khulshi thana, naming the arrested youths and several other unidentified individuals as suspects involved in the incident. She alleged that her daughter was rap
ed and murdered before the body was hung.
OC Jahedul Islam of Khulshi thana stated that an autopsy was conducted, and an examination was underway to determine whether the child was raped. The definite cause of the child’s death will be clarified once the autopsy report and other test results are available. The police are investigating the matter with utmost importance.
