DB Arrests 3 Chinese Nationals with 363 iPhones and Liquor in Dhaka

Detective Branch (DB) of police has arrested three Chinese nationals with 363 iPhones, foreign-made liquor, and cash from Uttara and Khilkhet areas in the city. Deputy Commissioner (media and public relations division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman identified the arrestees as Tan Jian, Wu Jun, and Dong Hongwei.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a DB Mirpur Division, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid at a house located at sector 13 under Uttara Paschim Police Station at about 3:30 pm yesterday and arrested Chinese citizen Tan Jian along with 58 iPhones. The police team also apprehended Wu Jun and Dong Hongwei, seizing an additional 305 iPhones from their possessions at about 5:30 pm.

In addition to the iPhones, the officers confiscated spare parts of iPhones, Tk.26,000 in cash, and eight bottles of foreign liquor. Initial interrogation revealed that the suspects brought spare parts of expensive mobile p
hone brands to Bangladesh through various methods, selling them to local retailers.

Authorities indicated that some local, dishonest mobile phone traders were also complicit with the gang. Legal action is currently underway against the arrested individuals.
