Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has announced its readiness to conduct the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum, ensuring a transparent and orderly process. Election Commissioner Md. Anwarul Islam Sarker expressed confidence in the preparations during an exclusive interview, highlighting the comprehensive efforts made by the Commission.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Commissioner Anwarul Islam emphasized that all necessary preparations are in place to facilitate a fair election, scheduled for February 12. He underscored the importance of conducting a “good election” for the country’s benefit, warning that failure to do so would be detrimental to national progress.

The Commissioner addressed the current concerns of candidates regarding the acceptance or rejection of their nominations, noting that once finalized, voters will be able to make informed decisions. This candidate-based mindset is expected to stabilize the election environment, contributing to increased voter turnout as candidates strive to mobilize their supporters.

To maintain law and order, the EC has assigned Ansar, police, Coast Guard, and intelligence agencies to high alert, ensuring strict vigilance over potential threats. The EC is committed to a secure environment for voters, with comprehensive measures in place including mobile courts, electoral inquiry committees, and law and order cells.

The EC has issued guidelines and circulars detailing the formation of vigilance and observation teams to prevent pre-election irregularities. These teams will operate under the leadership of returning officers and will include officials and neutral figures from various sectors. Their duties encompass monitoring compliance with election laws and the Representation of the People Order, 1972.

Security measures will be intensified in vulnerable areas and key polling centers, with joint meetings and public awareness campaigns planned to boost voter turnout. The EC is committed to preventing any undue influence or interference, ensuring that election neutrality and acceptability are upheld.

In cases of code of conduct violations, the vigilance teams are empowered to take immediate action or report to the relevant authorities. The EC has outlined protocols for filing complaints and taking legal action when necessary, ensuring adherence to election laws.

The Election Commission remains optimistic about a successful election, with continuous efforts to strengthen preparations and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
