Rajshahi: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged cybercriminal from a village in the district on Saturday afternoon. A RAB press release announced that the arrestee has been identified as Maruf Hossain, 29, son of Rafiqul Islam of Krisnawati Bogdamari village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on a tip-off, a team from the elite force conducted a sudden raid at the Gopalpur bypass area under the Godagari upazila around 5:50pm. The release detailed that Maruf, identifying himself as a RAB officer, made a phone call to Nuruzzaman Khan, Chairman of a garments factory in Narayanganj, soliciting money under the pretense of distributing winter clothes. Following this call, Khan transferred Taka 5,00,000 to a specified bank account. However, the mobile number used in the scam was found to be switched off upon multiple attempts to reach it.
Subsequently, Ismail Hossain Chowdhury, the manager of the factory, lodged a case regarding the incident.
