Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today declared that his party, having collaborated with the BNP in the past for the country's benefit, is poised to do so again to serve the national interest. 'Out of love for the country, we worked with the BNP in the past, and InshaAllah we will continue to work together in the national interest,' he told journalists, highlighting that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and other BNP leaders shared the same vision.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Jamaat Ameer made these remarks after visiting the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office. The visit was to offer condolences to BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and his family following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. During his visit, Dr Shafiqur Rahman met with Tarique Rahman and the bereaved family, expressed sympathy, and signed the condolence book at the BNP office.
Addressing the upcoming national election, Dr Shafiqur Rahman emphasized Jamaat-e-Islami's commitment to dialogues with all political parties to ensure a fair, participatory election for the country's benefit. He stressed the need for political unity as envisioned by Begum Khaleda Zia, advocating for a collective effort to restore a healthy political environment.
He further highlighted the importance of post-election dialogues among political parties to promote national stability and a positive political climate over the next five years. Paying tribute to Khaleda Zia, he acknowledged her departure as a significant moment in the nation's history and thanked medical professionals for their dedicated service during her treatment.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman concluded by praying for Khaleda Zia's eternal peace and extending deep condolences to her family, party members, and the people of Bangladesh.
