Dhaka: The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) under the Ministry of Education has successfully distributed over 24 crore textbooks to schools across the country, ensuring that students have access to their educational materials from the first day of the academic year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr. Riyad Chowdhury, an NCTB member responsible for textbooks, confirmed that all school students in the country received their textbooks on January 1. For the 2026 academic year, the total number of textbooks from pre-primary to secondary levels is 30,02,55,154, with 24,69,92,010 books already supplied, accounting for 82.26 percent of the total.
At the primary level, the distribution included 8,59,24,854 textbooks for general education, achieving a full delivery rate. Additionally, out of 3,11,19,347 textbooks meant for madrasa education, over 2.95 crore have been delivered. For children of ethnic minorities, 1,85,715 textbooks were distributed by December 15.
In the secondary education sector, the total number of textbooks for general, madrasa, and technical education is 18,32,40,927. Of these, 13,14,75,854 books have been delivered by 8 am today. For class-VI, 4,43,17,509 books were allocated, with 3,59,78,910 delivered, reaching 81.18 percent. For class-VII, 4,15,84,692 books were allocated, and 2,61,38,785 were delivered, amounting to 62.86 percent.
Furthermore, 8,02,34,698 books are designated for class-VIII students, with 2,06,88,395 already delivered. For class-IX, over 5.7 crore books were allocated, and more than 4.86 crore have been distributed. Additionally, of the 6,026 Braille textbooks, 4,520 have been delivered.
Professor Chowdhury expressed optimism that 100 percent textbook delivery will be achieved by January 15.
