Dhaka: Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid today emphasized the role of youth in driving change, highlighting their sacrifice and steadfastness as pivotal forces. She addressed the audience at the second convocation 2025 of Sonargaon University, held at the International Convention City Bashundhara.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Adviser Murshid dedicated her remarks to the memory of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent figure in the 2024 mass uprising. She also paid tribute to warriors from Sonargaon University, including 11 women who sacrificed their lives during the uprising. Murshid highlighted that these acts of heroism provide an opportunity for the nation to rebuild, stressing the crucial role of youth in reshaping societal values with a sense of responsibility towards people and the country.
Murshid called for gender equality, urging both men and women to advance together in building a democratic society. Addressing the new graduates, she underscored the expectations that come with their new identity, including responsibility, values, and leadership. She encouraged them to take active roles in preventing violence against women, standing for truth and justice, and supporting the marginalized.
The event also featured speeches from Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, and the Chairman of Sonargaon University’s Board of Trustees, Abdul Aziz.
