Dhaka: The final phase of the ‘Festival of Youth 2025 National Kabaddi (Men’s and Women’s) Championship’ commenced today at the Shaheed Captain M. Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium. The event was officially inaugurated by National Sports Council (NSC) Director (Sports), Mohammad Aminul Ehsan, who attended as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the opening ceremony also saw the presence of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) general secretary SM Newaz Sohag, Joint Secretary Abdul Haque, and other federation officials. During his address, Mohammad Aminul Ehsan expressed his optimism about the future of kabaddi in Bangladesh. He highlighted the potential of the national game, referencing the bronze medal achievement in the last Women’s World Cup and expressing aspirations for Bangladesh to become a global leader in both men’s and women’s kabaddi. He assured that the NSC would provide all necessary support to the federation.
The championship is structured in two phases, starting with district level games. Today, teams from the eight zonal levels began competing in the event. In the men’s division, Moulvibazar District triumphed over Madaripur with a score of 46-34, while in the women’s division, Jhenaidah secured a victory against Barisal, finishing 32-26.
The finals of the district championship for both men and women are scheduled for Sunday, December 28. Following this, the top four district teams, along with services teams, will advance to the main National Championship in the second phase. The tournament is set to conclude with the final match on December 31.
