Rajshahi: Rajshahi University (RU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) aimed at providing training on environment and climate change. A RU press release stated that the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) signed the deal on behalf of the RU, while the “Extended Community Climate Change Project-Drought (ECCCP-Drought)” represented PKSF, supported by Green Climate Fund (GCF).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Managing Director of PKSF Fazlul Kader, Deputy Managing Directors Moshiar Rahman and Dr. Fazley Rabbi Ahmad were present at the signing ceremony at the PKSF building. Professor Monimul Haque and Secretary Shariful Islam attended on behalf of the IQAC.

The three-year project aims to generate four master trainers to sustain the training program and enhance institutional capacity. Additionally, around 350 students will have the opportunity to participate in internships, along with seminars and workshops to raise awareness among teachers and students.

Key components of the ECCCP-Drought project include building the capacity of government and private institutions on climate change, artificially recharging underground water, re-excavating ponds and canals, and expanding the cultivation of drought-tolerant crops. RU Vice-chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naqib expressed hope that the partnership between RU’s IQAC and PKSF would be strengthened, ensuring that knowledge, research, and capacity development activities related to climate change are sustained and institutionalized.
