Gaibandha: ‘Palki’, a sale center for agricultural products cultivated by char farmers, was inaugurated in Gaibandha district at two separate locations: Hajirhaat (Kani-charitabari) under Horipur union of Sundarganj upazila and Guyabari char under Holdia union of Saghata upazila. The opening took place on Wednesday and was met with enthusiasm from the char inhabitants.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam officially opened the centers as the chief guest. The centers were established by CARE Bangladesh under its Prodipto project, which is being implemented by the SKS Foundation.

The event was attended by Sundarganj Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mashiar Rahman, Saghata Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mehedi Hasan, and other officials from the project and the SKS Foundation. Program manager SM Jaglul Razib highlighted that char farmers often struggle to receive fair prices for their agricultural products due to inadequate marketing systems.

In response to this issue, CARE Bangladesh initiated the concept of creating centers like ‘Palki’, where char farmers can sell their produce at equitable prices. The inaugural ceremonies were attended by numerous char farmers, public representatives, and invited guests, including media personnel.
