No Scope for Failure in 2026 Elections, Asserts Chief Election Commissioner

Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin today emphasized the critical importance of organizing a free, fair, and acceptable election, asserting that there is no room for failure in this crucial endeavor. He addressed these concerns during a meeting on election management with returning officers and field administration officials at the Election Commission Building in Agargaon, coinciding with the preparations for the upcoming referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election in 2026.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC emphasized the vital role of those present, noting that they are integral to the functioning of the government at the grassroots level. He remarked, “At this critical moment, if we fail to properly discharge the grave responsibility that has fallen upon us, we will not be able to answer to our future generations. There is no scope for failure in performing our respective duties.”



The meeting was attended by key figures, including Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, Election Commissioners Abdur Rahmanel Masud, Begum Tahmida Ahmad, Md Anwarul Islam Sarker, and Brig Gen Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah (Retd), along with Election Commission Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed and police officials involved in the forthcoming elections.



The CEC reiterated the commission’s commitment to demonstrating the true essence of the rule of law, aiming to dispel any collective allegations against them. He stated, “We want to prove that we can conduct a proper and fair election. And this is possible only through the rule of law.”



Highlighting the importance of upholding the rule of law, he urged those at the field level to ensure its implementation, reminding them that “the law is equal for everyone.” He called upon all concerned to perform their duties with awareness and responsibility, stressing the pivotal role they play in the country’s administration.



Expressing optimism, the CEC hoped for a collective effort to carry out election-related responsibilities effectively and without deviation. He encouraged everyone to execute their duties correctly, timely, and effectively, assuring them of the Election Commission’s support in their endeavors.
