Dhaka: The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has imposed a ban on drone flights at all airports and their surrounding areas, citing significant risks to national security and the safe operation of aircraft.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CAAB issued an official letter stating that unauthorized drone operations are strictly prohibited at airports, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and their adjacent zones under the Drone Registration and Operation Policy 2020. The authority highlighted that, despite the existing ban, some electronic media outlets operated drones without permission on December 19 while covering the arrival of the body of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi at the airport, which was attended by three advisers and other important persons.

The letter emphasized that such unauthorized drone flights pose a severe threat to safe air navigation and aircraft movement. CAAB has urged representatives of electronic media and members of the public to strictly refrain from flying drones in and around airport areas to ensure aviation safety and protect national security.
