Dhaka: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has announced that the case concerning the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi will be prosecuted at a Speedy Trial Tribunal. “The trial will be completed within a maximum of 90 days of receiving the police report, in line with Section 10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002,” he stated in a message on his verified Facebook account.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, earlier on December 20, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad ordered the inclusion of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code in the case initially filed over the attempted killing of Sharif Osman Hadi. This decision was made following Hadi’s death on December 18. The plea for this inclusion was filed by Inspector Foysal Ahmed, the investigating officer from the Detective Branch (DB) of police.

Sharif Osman Hadi, an independent parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-8 and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, was shot on December 12 in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area of the capital. The case statement reveals that two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Hadi while he was in a battery-run rickshaw, subsequently fleeing the scene.

Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case with the Paltan Model Police Station on December 14.
