Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today emphasized the government’s commitment to swiftly bring those responsible for the murder of Inqilab Moncho Spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi to justice.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser highlighted the priority given by the interim government and the Ministry of Home Affairs to the trial of individuals involved in Hadi’s murder, a significant figure in the July Uprising. The comments were made during a briefing after the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order, which also discussed security for the upcoming Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) polls.
Responding to inquiries about the main suspect, Faisal Karim Masud, Jahangir stated that Faisal could be either within the country or abroad, noting that there is no legal way for him to leave the country. He added that the exact location of Faisal remains unknown, but assured that justice will be served and no exemptions will be granted to those involved in the murder.
Authorities have so far arrested ten individuals connected to the murder, including Shaheda Parveen Samia, Faisal’s wife, and other family members. Law enforcement agencies have also recovered crucial evidence such as the motorcycle used in the murder, foreign pistols, and ammunition.
Jahangir confirmed that Faisal Karim Masud has been identified as the mastermind behind the incident and efforts are underway to apprehend him. He mentioned that some details remain confidential to protect the investigation’s integrity but assured significant progress has been made.
The BGB, based on intelligence, has detained five associates of broker gang leader Philip, including his wife and father-in-law, and transferred them to police custody. The police, RAB, and BGB provided a detailed briefing on the case during a press conference at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In another incident, the Home Adviser addressed the shooting of an NCP leader in Khulna, stating that he has instructed the Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner to act swiftly in capturing the perpetrators involved in the attack.
