Sylhet: A two-day long Hason Festival-2025 commenced today in Sylhet, celebrating the legacy of the renowned Bengali mystic poet, philosopher, and songwriter Hason Raja. The festival kicked off at the Central Shahid Minar in Chowhatta with a symbolic pigeon release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Hason Raja Lokosahitya and Cultural Parishad organized the event with support from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Hason Raja, despite his status as an influential zamindar, pursued self-purification through mystical practices. Speakers at the event highlighted that his works, rich in spirituality and the mysteries of human life, continue to resonate with themes of humanity and love.
The discussions emphasized the continued relevance of Hason Raja’s philosophy, stressing the importance of imparting his mystical insights to the younger generation. Participants noted that the festival serves as a significant step in promoting folk heritage.
Dr. Mohammad Zahirul Islam Achinpuri, president of the Hason Raja Lokosahitya and Cultural Parishad central committee, presided over the event. Notable speakers included former Principal of Madhan Mohon College Colonel (retd) M Ataur Rahman Pir, Sylhet Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Quddus Chowdhury, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy secretary Zakir Hossen, and Sylhet City BNP acting president Rezaul Hasan. Other attendees were journalist Aftab Chowdhury, Hason Raja Loksahitya and Cultural Parishad chief adviser Dewan Shahbaj Raja Chowdhury, and Sylhet city BNP publicity secretary Belayet Hossen Mohon.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy secretary Zakir Hossen announced that the Hason Festival would be celebrated on a national scale from the following year, marking an important milestone for the festival’s future prominence.
