Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has announced a revision in the schedule for filing and processing appeals related to the nomination papers for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election. This change comes as part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to streamline the electoral process ahead of the February 12 polls.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the EC’s revised notification indicates that the timeframe for submitting appeals has been reduced by two days, now spanning from January 5 to January 9. Previously, candidates had until January 11 to file their appeals. Conversely, the period allocated for resolving these appeals has been lengthened by two days, now scheduled from January 10 to January 18, instead of the earlier January 12 to 18 timeline.
As per the established election schedule, candidates are required to submit their nomination papers by December 29. The scrutiny of these nominations will occur from December 30 to January 4. Additionally, candidates wishing to withdraw from the race must do so by January 20, with the allocation of election symbols set for January 21.
The 13th Jatiya Sangsad election is set to take place on February 12, accompanied by a referendum. Voting is scheduled to occur from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, utilizing transparent ballot boxes to ensure a fair process. The election schedule was initially announced by Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on December 11, with the revised notification being issued on December 18.
