Bhola: Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Rtd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain today inaugurated the Dhalchar (Ananda Bazar) launch ghat in Char Fasson Upazila of Bhola district, a project completed by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA). The new facility is expected to significantly improve the lives of the residents in this isolated region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the shipping adviser emphasized the historical neglect and deprivation faced by the people of Dhalchar and Ananda Bazar. He expressed optimism that the new launch ghat will alleviate the long-standing hardships faced by the residents. He noted that this project is not merely about infrastructure but serves as a pivotal link to enhance safe communication and foster development for the marginalized communities.
Dhalchar (Ananda Bazar) is a remote island situated at the southern edge of Char Fasson upazila, near the confluence of the Meghna River and the Bay of Bengal. Due to its challenging geographical location, residents have long struggled with inadequate and unsafe water transport facilities, exacerbated by adverse weather conditions and tidal fluctuations.
The shipping adviser highlighted that prior to this development, residents faced significant difficulties in accessing essential services such as healthcare, education, and administrative functions. The new launch ghat is expected to ease these challenges and stimulate local economic activities. He reiterated the government's commitment to enhancing water transport infrastructure to connect marginalized island communities with broader developmental initiatives.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the BIWTA chairman, officials from the Shipping Ministry and BIWTA, as well as representatives from the district and upazila administration.
