Gaibandha: A five-day training program focused on small business management for individuals affected by climate change has concluded at the office of a local non-governmental development organization in the Nashratpur area under Sadar upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), an NGO based in Gaibandha with nationwide operations, organized the training as part of the PROSPERITY Project. This initiative, supported by Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to promote resilience, opportunity, and socio-economic empowerment among migrants and communities displaced by climate change in Bangladesh.
A concluding ceremony took place on the GUK office premises, chaired by its Director, Abu Sayem Md. Jannatun Nur. The event saw Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sadar upazila and executive magistrate Zahangir Alam Babu attending as the chief guest, who distributed business materials to the trainees.
The Director of GUK stated that the training's goal was to assist climate-affected youths and homemakers in the project areas by providing them with necessary training to engage in income-generating activities, thereby gradually improving their socio-economic conditions. The training was attended by 14 individuals, who also received business materials to help them operate their small businesses efficiently in their respective areas.
In response to inquiries, GUK's Senior Programme Manager Joya Prosad explained that the project has been implemented in six unions across Sadar and Fulchhari upazilas since 2023, with financial backing from AWO and BMZ. The chief guest encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the knowledge and materials provided effectively to achieve the project's goals and ensure its success.
The ceremony was attended by organizational officials, invited guests, and journalists.
