Dhaka: Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md Showkat Ali today expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of the Inqilab Manch and a prominent figure of the July Mass Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-chancellor conveyed his condolences through a message, describing Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi as a brave and patriotic socio-cultural-political activist. Hadi was known for his relentless fight against injustice and exploitation throughout his life. After the July Uprising, he played a pivotal role as the spokesperson of the Inqilab Mancha, advocating for the rights of the July fighters and upholding democratic values.
The Vice-chancellor highlighted that Osman Hadi was an idealistic and determined young man who remained uncompromising in his beliefs and principles. His voice against hegemonic forces and injustices was clear and unwavering. Dr. Md Showkat Ali condemned Hadi's brutal death in a terrorist attack, stating it was an unacceptable act aimed at silencing a courageous advocate for justice and truth. He urged for the swift identification and arrest of those responsible for Hadi's murder to ensure justice is served.
The Vice-chancellor recalled Osman Hadi's significant participation in the closing ceremony of the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Book Fair held at Begum Rokeya University last February. Hadi's presence and insightful speech left a lasting impact on attendees, including teachers and students, which the university community continues to honor.
Dr. Md Showkat Ali expressed that Osman Hadi's ideals, courage, and lifelong struggle would inspire future generations to remain committed to justice, truth, and democracy. He prayed for the forgiveness of Hadi's departed soul and extended heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, fellow July warriors, and well-wishers.
Osman Hadi passed away at 9:45 pm Bangladesh time on Thursday while undergoing treatment in Singapore, after sustaining injuries from a shooting incident in Dhaka a week earlier.
