Dhaka: The Dhaka First Division Cricket League is gearing up to resume its matches on December 21, featuring 12 clubs after the relegation of eight clubs due to walkovers in the initial round.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Partex Sporting Club, Gazi Tyres Cricket Academy, Kalabagan Krira Chakra, Amber Sporting Club, Khelaghar Samaj Kallyan Samity, Orient Sporting Club, Kakrail Boys Club, and Surjotorun Club were the teams that failed to appear for their scheduled matches. This led to their automatic relegation from the league.
The league, initially launched by the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) with 20 clubs on December 14, faced significant disruptions. During the first two match days, only three out of ten matches were played as planned, while the remaining matches ended in walkovers.
In response to these challenges, the CCDM convened a meeting with the 12 remaining clubs to formulate a revised schedule for the league. "There will be some changes, and the number of matches will be reduced after eight clubs were relegated following no show up," CCDM Chairman Adnan Rahman Dipon stated to reporters. He further confirmed that after thorough discussions with the clubs, the decision was made to restart the league on December 21.
