Rajshahi: Rajshahi University (RU) today held its 12th convocation at the university stadium ground in a festive atmosphere after a gap of five years. Around 6,000 graduates from the 60th, 61st, and 62nd batches of the university participated in the convocation, wearing academic gowns and caps.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the convocation rally commenced at 9:30 am with the presence of members of the senate, syndicate, and academic council, alongside faculty deans. The Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Professor SMA Faiz, addressed the gathering as the convocation speaker.
Adviser to the Planning Ministry, Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, participated as a special guest, while Adviser to the Education Ministry, Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, presided over the ceremony. RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Saleh Hassan Naqib, Pro-Vice-Chancellors Professor Mayeen Uddin and Professor Farid Uddin Khan, and Treasurer Professor Matiar Rahman also spoke at the event.
As the chair of the convocation, Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar officially conferred degrees as the faculty deans presented graduates from their respective faculties one by one. Adequate security measures were implemented by law-enforcing and intelligence agencies to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the convocation.
The campus was adorned with colourful lights and other decorations to commemorate the occasion. Many graduates expressed joy at receiving their degrees, describing the convocation as a milestone in their academic lives and a memorable moment to celebrate with family members and friends.
