Dhaka: BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today stated that the political forces responsible for the ‘genocides’ of 1971 and 2024 share identical characteristics. He argued that both forces exhibit the same character, goals, and authoritarian nature.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dudu made these remarks at a discussion titled “Great Victory Day, Ziaur Rahman, and the Current Context,” organized by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ganatantra Parishad at the Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club. During his speech, he highlighted that a specific quarter is systematically attempting to create instability in the country.

Dudu warned that unity and vigilance are crucial to establishing democracy and the people’s right to vote. He cautioned that any wrong decision at this stage could lead Bangladesh into a dire situation. He further noted a conspiracy aimed at disrupting the upcoming elections, mentioning that a particular group is trying to create conditions where elections cannot be held.

The BNP leader emphasized that divisions for personal or group interests would only harm the country. He stated that if the election is obstructed, the beneficiaries would be autocratic forces and a neighboring country, while the people of Bangladesh would gain nothing. Dudu also expressed concern over the health of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently fighting for her life, and he prayed for her speedy recovery.

The event saw participation from several BNP figures, including Advisor to the BNP Chairperson Abdus Salam, BNP Assistant Local Government Affairs Secretary Shammi Akhter, and Member of the National Executive Committee Kazi Rafiq, among others.
