Victory Day Celebrated with Solemnity and Festivity in Rangpur

Rangpur: The people of Rangpur today celebrated Victory Day-2025 in a festive atmosphere, paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War and the July Uprising.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, hundreds of people, dressed in red-green attire, gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar from one minute past midnight to lay wreaths. The divisional and district administrations, Rangpur City Corporation, Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police, Rangpur Metropolitan Police, BNP, various political parties, and numerous organizations celebrated the day with vibrant programs.



With the sunrise, the Victory Day celebrations commenced with a 31-gun salute at the Police Lines ground, followed by the laying of wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar and the hoisting of the national flag atop government, semi-government, and private buildings in the city. Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam, along with high officials, placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar, honoring the martyrs of the War of Liberation.



Later in the morning, the Divisional Commissioner hoisted the national flag at Shaheed Abu Sayed Stadium, where the national anthem was performed. Alongside high-ranking officials, he observed a march-past and exhibition featuring students from educational institutions. The commissioner also inaugurated the three-day Victory Fair-2025 at the Rangpur Zilla School Ground at noon.



The day’s events included the hoisting of national flags on buildings, and the decoration of roadsides and structures with national flags, colored festoons, posters, and banners. Special prayers were offered for the souls of the martyred and for the nation’s prosperity at various places of worship. Improved meals were provided to inmates of hospitals, the Rangpur Central Jail, and shelters.



Additionally, documentary films on the War of Liberation were screened by the District Information Office at cinemas and open locations. A reception was held at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium for heroic freedom fighters and relatives of martyred fighters, attended by the Divisional Commissioner as the chief guest.



The Victory Fair-2025, organized by the Rangpur district administration and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation, features 130 stalls and will continue until December 18.
