Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today declared that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) would ensure the security of the 'July Fighters' if it assumes state power through the people's mandate.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul expressed concerns about the current situation, stating that many 'July Fighters' are uncertain and apprehensive about their security if a new government takes over following the interim government. Speaking at a discussion organized by the BNP to mark the Great Victory Day at the Engineers Institute in Ramna, Fakhrul assured, "I want to firmly assure them that if the BNP is elected by the people and comes to power, it will take full responsibility for the security of these fighters."
The virtual participation of the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman as the chief guest underscored the importance of the event. Fakhrul emphasized the significance of the July Uprising in Bangladesh's democratic struggle, highlighting the state's responsibility to safeguard those involved in this movement.
Addressing the upcoming national election, Fakhrul described it as crucial for the nation's future, stating, "The next election is the one where the decision will be made whether we will build a liberal democratic Bangladesh or revert to a backward state." He urged citizens to make the right choice, asserting that the election's outcome will determine the country's progression or regression.
Fakhrul accused former opposition forces of attempting to undermine Bangladesh's independence and democracy, claiming they aim to destroy public aspirations and disrupt democratic transitions. He further alleged that misinformation is being spread to discredit the BNP.
Expressing outrage over the assault on Osman Hadi, Fakhrul condemned the attack, identifying the assailant as an Awami League terrorist, and criticized efforts to wrongly blame the BNP.
Lastly, regarding Tarique Rahman's return, Fakhrul called on party activists to rally, declaring, "Our leader is arriving on December 25. That day, we will shake all of Bangladesh and hoist the flag of nationalism. Let us all wake up for the country's democracy and independence."
