Dinajpur: A mobile court jointly conducted by the district administration, the Department of Environment, and RAB-13 fined a brick kiln Tk 5 lakh during daylong drives in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district on Tuesday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a RAB-13 press release issued last night stated that the court also demolished the chimneys of two other brick kilns for violating environmental laws. The drives were led by an Executive Magistrate of the Dinajpur district administration and included participation from officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the Department of Environment, and local police.
The operation was initiated following reports that several brick kilns in the district were using excessive sulfur, ash-, and mercury-laden coal, and were operating without valid permits. Such activities are in violation of the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (Amended 2013).
The court specifically fined Md Mostakim Sarder, owner of Bhai Bhai Bricks located in the Khalilpu
r Deberhat area under Parbatipur police station, Tk 5 lakh for these violations. Additionally, the court ordered the demolition of one chimney of ARB Bricks in the Dakshin Palashbari area and another of Sotota Bricks in the Khalilpur Sardarpara area for similar infractions, as detailed in the release.
