Dhaka: Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, the outgoing adviser of the interim government, has officially submitted his wealth statement to the government as he prepares to participate in the upcoming national election. This announcement was made during a press conference held at the conference room of the Local Government Division.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Mahmud disclosed that he submitted his wealth statement and canceled his diplomatic passport earlier in the day. When asked about the possibility of contesting the election under the National Citizen Party (NCP) ticket, Asif indicated that while there was no ambiguity about his participation in the polls, no final decision had been made. He emphasized that once a decision is finalized, it will be communicated to all concerned parties.
Asif Mahmud addressed the media, stating that it would be premature to assume his participation with the NCP, a party established by his associates from the July movement. He expressed confidence that clarity on the matter would be achieved soon and urged media personnel to concentrate on objective information.
The outgoing adviser reflected on the restoration of freedom of speech in Bangladesh since the previous Awami League government’s removal. He noted instances where this freedom had been misused, including by some media outlets, and stated efforts had been made to address these issues. He affirmed his commitment to upholding freedom of speech and encouraged others to do the same.
The press conference was attended by Local Government Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi and other senior ministry officials.
