Pabna: Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Sheik Moinuddin, announced that a direct train service connecting Pabna to Dhaka is set to commence in March 2026. He shared this information while speaking to journalists at the Pakshi Divisional Railway Office in Pabna.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sheik Moinuddin highlighted that the railway department is currently experiencing a shortage of coaches but assured that this issue is expected to be resolved soon. Preparations are underway to facilitate the direct rail operations from Pabna to Dhaka starting in March. Additionally, a review will be conducted on the railway station built for transporting materials to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant before the final decision is made.
The special assistant also discussed the government's plans to construct a modern and integrated communication system via waterways, railways, and roads throughout the country. Efforts are already underway to upgrade district-level connecting highways into four lanes and to expand major roads. Priority is being given to widening the main Abdul Hamid Road in Pabna.
Furthermore, projects such as the Aricha Khaschar ferry connection, Pakshi-Badherhat road expansion, and Kashinathpur-Ullapara road widening are under active consideration by the government. Sheik Moinuddin also assured that an overpass would be constructed to ease traffic congestion at the Ishwardi rail gate.
Previously, Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, BNP Chairperson's Special Assistant and BNP candidate for Pabna Sadar, along with Habibur Rahman Habib, BNP District Convener and BNP nominated candidate for Pabna-4, had presented long-standing local demands for improving communication to Sheik Moinuddin on behalf of the people of Pabna.
Sheik Moinuddin's visit to Ishwardi began on Monday. During his visit, he toured the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project and the North Bengal Paper Mill School, a place connected to his student life. Present at the announcement were Pabna Press Club General Secretary Zahurul Islam, District BNP Senior Joint Convener Alhaj Abdus Samad Khan Montu, Bangladesh Petrol Pump Owners Association Secretary General Abu Ahsan Khan Rayan, and officials of the Western Railway Division.
