Dhaka: A court here today placed NASSA Group chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of one Kamal Hossain alias Sabuj during the July Mass Uprising. Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order as police produced Nazrul, also the former chairman of Exim Bank, before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nazrul Islam Mazumder was arrested from his Gulshan house on October 1, 2024, and has been in jail since then. The case documents reveal that Sabuj, aged 40, participated in an anti-discrimination student movement rally in Shahjadpur Batar Goli under Gulshan Police Station on the morning of July 19, 2024.
The rally experienced an attack at 12:30 pm, during which Sabuj was shot and died on the spot. Subsequently, a case was filed with the Gulshan Police Station on July 7, 2025.
