Dhaka: BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today asserted that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is uniquely positioned to address and eliminate corruption in Bangladesh. He emphasized that the party has historically been effective in combating corruption and expressed confidence in BNP's ability to continue this mission for the benefit of the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made these remarks while officiating as the chief guest at the launch of the BNP's 7-day initiative titled 'Plan for Nation Building' at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) Convention Hall. Tarique highlighted BNP's governance from 2001 to 2006 as a period when corruption was systematically reduced, contrasting it with the prior administration, which he accused of proliferating corruption.
Tarique Rahman pointed out the challenges that lie ahead, referencing his warnings since August 5, 2024, about difficult times and various conspiracies that threaten the nation. He emphasized the role of democracy as the essential tool to counter these conspiracies and reiterated the importance of establishing people's will as a defense mechanism.
During his address, Tarique Rahman also discussed BNP's developmental initiatives and underscored the critical issues of corruption and law and order. He stressed that failure to address these could hinder the nation's progress. He recalled improvements in law and order during BNP's previous tenure, lamenting subsequent abuses by an autocratic government for political gains, which, he argued, damaged the country's and law enforcement agencies' reputations globally.
Criticizing the Awami League, Tarique Rahman accused them of dismantling various sectors such as the economy, education, healthcare, and agriculture, affecting citizens adversely. He called upon party activists to collaborate in implementing BNP's plans to improve the country's prospects.
The event was presided over by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, with the inauguration conducted by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. BNP joint secretary general Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel moderated the proceedings, and senior BNP leaders delivered speeches, with participation from different units of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from the city.
