Dhaka: BNP Chairperson's personal physician and BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain today announced that the transfer of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to London by air ambulance for advanced treatment might face further delays.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Zahid stated that the air ambulance intended for Begum Zia's transport could not arrive due to a technical issue. Additionally, the medical board's urgent meeting concluded that it was inappropriate for her to fly at the moment, contributing to the postponement of her transfer abroad.
Dr. Zahid addressed these concerns during a press briefing at the main gate of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. He assured that preparations for her international transfer are complete and that she will be flown to London when deemed suitable by the medical board.
He emphasized the challenges of long-duration flights for patients, noting the physical changes that occur at high altitudes. Dr. Zahid urged the public to remain calm and not to spread or believe any misleading information regarding Khaleda Zia's condition or transfer.
Previously, on December 4, it was announced that Khaleda Zia would be taken to London after midnight or early the next morning. Dr. Zahid reiterated that her treatment is of the highest standard, with an international medical board prioritizing her medical needs.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 due to breathing difficulties from a lung infection, which developed into pneumonia. Her condition is further complicated by chronic issues, including kidney, liver, arthritis, and diabetes, making treatment challenging.
