Dhaka: Mohammadpur police have submitted a charge sheet against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and 27 others in the murder case of Sabuj, a CNG-run auto rickshaw driver. The charge sheet was presented to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court following police findings of prima-facie evidence linking the accused to the crime.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police submitted the charge sheet on November 27 after establishing preliminary evidence against the prime accused. The victim, Sabuj, aged 22, was killed in the Mohammadpur area during an anti-discrimination student movement on August 4 last year.
The investigation, led by Sub-Inspector Md Mazharul Islam of Mohammadpur Thana, revealed that Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and several others were allegedly involved in planning the murder, engaging in criminal conspiracy, providing financial support, supplying firearms, and offering various forms of assistance.
Further findings implicated FIR-named accused Asif Ahmed, Tarequzzaman Rajib, and later identified suspects Masudur Rahman Biplob and Rasel in the shooting and killing of Sabuj. Other accused individuals, including Anisur Rahman Kabul, Maruful Islam Biplob, and several others, were found to have incited riots and attacked students and the general public, facilitating the murder.
Case details indicate that on August 4, 2024, during the student movement, the accused fired weapons near Allah Karim Mosque in Mohammadpur, striking Sabuj as he approached the mosque. Sabuj succumbed to his injuries at Shikder Medical College Hospital the same day.
The murder case was filed by Sabuj's brother, Monir Hossain, on September 1, 2024, at Mohammadpur Police Station. Following the investigation, the charge sheet was formally submitted on November 27, implicating Sheikh Hasina and 29 others in the case.
