Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced today that Tarique Rahman, the party's Acting Chairman, is poised to return to the country imminently as final preparations are underway.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khasru confirmed at a press conference held at a city hotel that the BNP will participate in the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election under Rahman's leadership. He stated that Rahman's home and office are ready for his return, indicating that his arrival is expected soon.
Khasru elaborated that both he and the party have finalized the plans surrounding Rahman's return, suggesting his homecoming could occur at any moment. When questioned about Dr. Zubaida Rahman's potential political involvement, Khasru remarked that it remains her personal choice, emphasizing that Tarique Rahman is set to lead the BNP and guide the election campaign.
He expressed that should the BNP gain public support and form the next government, the cabinet will operate under Rahman's leadership, which will propel the country forward. On the matter of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia potentially receiving medical treatment abroad, Khasru noted that the decision lies with the medical board, which is currently deliberating the situation.
Addressing the upcoming election, Khasru underscored the urgency of establishing an elected government to benefit the nation, urging that overcoming the current state of indecision is essential. He highlighted the sacrifices made by Khaleda Zia and party members to secure the people's voting rights.
In response to inquiries about BNP's stance on alliance nominations for the next election, Khasru acknowledged that discussions on electoral alliances and seat arrangements are ongoing, as dialogue is a cornerstone of democracy. He emphasized the importance of selecting candidates-whether from within or outside the party-that stand the best chance of winning, with efforts focused on finalizing the nomination process swiftly.
