Dhaka: A total of 1,93,874 Bangladeshi expatriates have so far registered through the 'Postal Vote BD' app to vote in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Election and the referendum.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, updated figures released on the Election Commission (EC) website this morning indicate that out of the registered voters, 1,74,909 are men and 18,965 are women.
Saudi Arabia leads the registration numbers with 38,269 registrants, closely followed by the United States, which has recorded 19,271 registrations. The Election Commission has emphasized the importance for expatriates to provide accurate postal addresses, cautioning that incomplete or incorrect information could impede the delivery of ballot papers.
In an effort to accommodate more expatriates, the EC has extended the registration deadline until 25 December. EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed stated that anyone abroad can download the app and complete their registration within the extended timeframe.
Additionally, the EC plans to introduce In-Country Postal Voting for government officials on election duty, voters in legal custody, and government officials residing outside their constituencies.
