Magura: Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today emphasized that the government's primary mission is to extradite those responsible for the July atrocities, which he described as the government's core commitment. "Our main target is to bring back the killers of the July massacre. This is our oath and our commitment," Alam stated during the inauguration of an inter-college football tournament at Magura Government High School ground.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the press secretary highlighted that the fascist government was responsible for the deaths of numerous students and civilians during the 2024 July Uprising. He noted that the International Crimes Tribunal has confirmed that genocide was perpetrated by the fascist regime. "The International Crimes Tribunal has handed down death sentences to Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. We want them to be extradited to the country," he remarked, noting that they have the right to appeal.
Alam assured that efforts would be made to expedite the execution of their verdicts in accordance with both domestic and international legal standards. He vowed, "We will bring back to Bangladesh everyone whose hands are stained with blood. This is our duty to the martyrs, our oath. If we fail, the next generation will take up this responsibility. There will be no concession on this matter."
The press secretary also mentioned the national unity in this cause and the urgency of bringing those who caused harm to justice. He expressed uncertainty about achieving this within the 70 days remaining before the election but pledged to try.
Alam described BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia as a national and popular leader, expressing hopes for her recovery and participation in the upcoming elections. He affirmed the government's commitment to conducting a free, fair, neutral, and credible election, scheduled to be held by February 15 next year with participation from all political parties. The Election Commission has already engaged in discussions with all political factions, Alam added.
The event was attended by Magura district Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Abdul Kader, Magura Municipality Administrator Imtiaz Hossain, District Sports Officer BM Sazin Ishrat, and sports organizer Barik Nonjam Barky.
