Dhaka: Mah Alam, the Jahangirnagar University Correspondent for Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), has been awarded the Butterfly Media Award 2025 in the Digital Category. The accolade acknowledges his contributions to wildlife journalism and his efforts in reporting on nature and biodiversity conservation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the award was presented to Mah Alam during the inaugural session of the 'Butterfly Fair-2025', held in front of the Zahir Raihan Auditorium at Jahangirnagar University. The event saw JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan handing over the crest and certificate to Mah Alam as the chief guest. The session was chaired by Prof Dr Md Mansurul Haque, Chairman of JU's Zoology Department.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including JU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr M Abdur Rab, acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Prof Mohammad Mafruhi Sattar, wildlife scientist Dr Ali Reza Khan, Chief Conservator of Forests Amir Hossain Chowdhury, and IUCN Bangladesh Country Director Istiaq Ahmed.
Mah Alam, who also serves as the Office and Publication Secretary of the Jahangirnagar University Journalists' Association, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. He stated that the award will motivate him to continue his work in reporting on nature, biodiversity, and conservation with renewed dedication.
The 15th edition of the fair was organized by the Entomology Section of the Department of Zoology at Jahangirnagar University. This year's event was supported by title sponsor Cute, with Prokriti O Jibon Foundation, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Arannayk Foundation, and the Bangladesh Forest Department as associate partners. Channel i and Radio Vumi served as media partners.
