Sylhet: Despite a superb century from Pritom Kumar, Sylhet registered a 10-wicket victory over Rajshahi in the sixth round game of the 27th National Cricket League at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today. The match saw Sylhet dominate, thanks to an impressive lead built in the first innings.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sylhet's victory seemed inevitable after they secured a significant first-innings lead, largely due to a remarkable 213 from Amite Hasan. Although Rajshahi, led by Pritom Kumar's tenacious 143, managed to avoid an innings defeat by scoring 336 in their second innings, they left Sylhet needing only 38 runs to secure the win.
Sylhet effortlessly reached the target in just 9.2 overs, marking their second victory in the league. This win propelled them to the top of the points table, maintaining their unbeaten status with four draws in previous matches. Skipper Zakir Hasan remained unbeaten on 20, alongside Mubin Ahmed Dishan on 13, as the team clinched the win.
Rajshahi had resumed the day at 146-3, with Pritom Kumar and SM Meherob forging a 102-run partnership for the fourth wicket. The partnership was eventually broken by fast bowler Ebadot Hossain, who dismissed Meherob for 55, initiating a collapse despite Pritom's resistance. Pritom's innings of 143 came from 233 balls and included 18 fours.
In the bowling department, Abu Jayed Rahi and Nabil Samad shone for Sylhet, each taking three wickets. Earlier in the match, after being put to bat first, Rajshahi was bowled out for 236 in their first innings. Sylhet replied with a commanding 535-8 declared, which set the tone for their decisive victory.
