Chuadanga: Two business establishments in Damurhuda upazila of the district have been fined a total of Taka 35,000 for running the business illegally and selling expired medicines during a surveillance drive conducted by the District Consumer Rights Protection Department.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the department conducted the drive at Damurhuda market targeting shops dealing in daily essentials, pharmaceuticals, and fuel gas. The operation took place on Monday from 10.45 am to 12.30 pm.
Assistant Director of the district office of Consumer Rights Protection Department, Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, revealed that M/s Alamgir Enterprise and Crockery Garden, owned by Alamgir Hossain, was fined Taka 30,000 under Section 52 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009 for operating without proper authorization. Additionally, M/s Janani Pharmacy, operated by Mejbauddin, was fined Taka 5,000 under Section 51 of the same act for selling expired medicines.
The operation was led by Assistant Director Hasan, with CAB representative Rafiqul Islam and members of the district police accompanying the drive.
