Dhaka: Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Mian Golam Parwar, has declared that the primary objective of his party is to establish a corruption-free country. Addressing a rally at the Madrasha playground, Parwar emphasized the ongoing fight against corruption, stating that people are demanding a nation free from corrupt practices. He criticized previous governments for their involvement in corruption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rally was part of an eight-party alliance movement led by Jamaat-e-Islami to advocate for their five-point demands. The event saw participation from leaders of Islami Andolon, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Khelafat Andolon, Nizami Islam Party, Bangladesh Development Party, and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party. Parwar reiterated the party's call for a referendum ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary elections, suggesting that the people of Bangladesh hope for the emergence of a new Islamic state.
During the rally, other key figures such as Jamaat E Islami Leader Nurul Islam Bulbul, Bangladesh Development Party President Advocate Anwarul Islam, and leaders from various Islamic parties also addressed the attendees. They expressed concerns about the neutrality and fairness of the upcoming elections and demanded that the administration create a level playing field.
Parwar acknowledged the interim government's election timeline and expressed readiness for the elections, but he raised doubts about their proper and neutral conduct. He emphasized the importance of holding referendums and parliamentary elections on separate days to ensure fairness.
Ashraf Ali Akanda, Presidium Member of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, echoed the sentiments of change desired by the people, highlighting their aspiration for a prosperous Bangladesh free from the rule of extortionists. He assured that Islamic parties would form an effective parliament if given the chance to govern.
