Barisal: The graduation parade of the 4th batch of cadets from the Bangladesh Marine Academy, Barisal, was held today with much fanfare and ceremony. The event, which commenced with a parade at the academy premises at 11 am, marked a significant milestone for the cadets who have completed their rigorous training.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ceremony saw Shipping Secretary Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury in attendance as the chief guest. Dr. Chowdhury addressed the gathering, emphasizing the government's ongoing efforts to popularize the maritime profession and modernize its training systems. She highlighted the vital role played by the five marine academies in Bangladesh in meeting the global demand for skilled marine professionals.
Dr. Chowdhury also noted the substantial foreign exchange earnings brought in by Bangladeshi mariners who work on international ships, directly contributing to the nation's economic growth. The event was presided over by Captain SM Atiqur Rahman, Commandant of the Bangladesh Marine Academy, Barisal, and was attended by several dignitaries including Barisal University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Toufique Alam, Range DIG Manjur Morshed Alam, and Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam, along with other senior officials and guardians.
The graduation ceremony celebrated the achievements of 61 cadets, with 30 graduating from the Nautical Department and 31 from the Marine Engineering Department, all having completed their training under the Pre-C course.
