Khulna: The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has successfully recovered 62 rare turtles during an anti-smuggling operation in Khulna's Rupsa area. The operation took place on Sunday morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, personnel from Coast Guard Station Khulna, acting on a tip-off, executed a special operation near the Rupsa Toll Plaza around 8:00 am. During the operation, the rare turtles were discovered after conducting a search of a passenger bus.
The Coast Guard reported that the bus driver and his helper were released on bail at the scene, and the bus was allowed to continue its journey. The recovered turtles were handed over to the Khulna Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division for further legal proceedings.
Lieutenant Commander Muntasir Ibne Mohsin, the media officer of the Coast Guard West Zone, confirmed the recovery of the turtles. He emphasized that similar operations would persist to protect the biodiversity and wildlife of the Sundarbans.
