Faridpur: Education Adviser Professor Dr. CR Abrar today emphasized the esteemed role of teachers in society, underscoring the need to reinforce their status further. "Only teachers can instill humanity, ethics, and civic consciousness in students," he remarked during a views-exchange meeting at a 56-day training program for newly-recruited secondary school and madrasa teachers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized under the Learning Acceleration in Secondary Education (LAISE) Project by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education at Faridpur Teachers' Training College. Professor Abrar highlighted that the training program for secondary-level teachers represents a significant step toward enhancing education quality. Despite existing limitations, the government is prioritizing this initiative.
Professor Abrar pointed out the critical role of secondary education within the broader education system. "Once, this stage lacked the desired training structure; today, that gap is being addressed. I am delighted to be present here," he stated. He acknowledged the government's continued efforts to pursue essential education reforms amid limited resources and challenges.
He further elaborated on the state's financial constraints, noting that despite an initially fragile financial situation, the government maintained regular debt payments, salaries, allowances, and development activities. Professor Abrar stressed the necessity for substantial investment in education and health sectors and lauded the government's initiatives, including the comprehensive teacher training program.
He also emphasized the importance of self-evaluation among teachers, urging them to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, he called on teachers to keep their professional lives free from political bias and transform educational institutions into centers for fostering moral values.
The event was attended by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, representatives from the education department, local administration, and members of civil society.
