Chattogram: Md Karim, also known as Rahim, a former Union Parishad member and vice-president of the Kolagaon Union unit of Jubo League, was arrested by Patiya police on Friday night. Karim was wanted in two separate cases - one for attempted murder and another under the Explosive Act - filed with Kotwali police under the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md Nuruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Patiya police, confirmed that Karim was taken into custody during a special drive in the Kolagaon area. Police stated that Karim, a close aide of former Awami League lawmaker Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, had been involved in criminal activities in the area and had been in hiding since August 5. He recently returned to the area and was attempting to reorganize his gang to commit crimes.
