Rangpur: The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has initiated a comprehensive two-month Satranji weaving training program in Rangpur. The initiative aims to enhance the skills of local female artisans and bolster the traditional craft industry in the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BSCIC Chairman Md Saiful Islam inaugurated the training at the Satranji Project Building in the Nisbetganj area of Rangpur metropolis. He graced the ceremony as the chief guest, emphasizing the cultural significance of Satranji, a craft deeply rooted in the heritage of Rangpur. He highlighted that Satranji is not merely a product but a unique symbol of creativity and craftsmanship. The craft’s recognition as a Geographical Indication (GI) product has significantly elevated the region’s prestige on both national and international platforms, serving as an important brand identity for Rangpur.
The training, organized collaboratively by the BSCIC Development Division and the Rangpur District BSCIC Office, involves 30 female participants. They will be trained in modern weaving techniques, quality improvement methods, and marketing skills. Deputy Director (Local Government) of Rangpur Khristafar Himel Richil presided over the inaugural function.
The BSCIC Chairman underscored the importance of effective promotion for expanding the market reach of traditional products like Satranji. He stressed that maintaining and enhancing quality standards would secure a stronger presence for Bangladeshi crafts in global markets. BSCIC has consistently played a vital role in creating entrepreneurs across the country, providing training, advice, and skill development support at district and regional levels.
He expressed confidence that the training would empower the female trainees with advanced skills and knowledge, enabling them to contribute to establishing Satranji as a recognized global brand. General Manager of the Dhaka BSCIC Development Department Jasmine Nahar and Deputy General Manager of the Rangpur District Office Md Ehsanul Haque also addressed the event as special guests.
