Foundation Stone Laid for Jahangirnagar University Fine Arts Faculty Building

Jahangirnagar: The foundation stone of the proposed Fine Arts Faculty building at Jahangirnagar University (JU) was laid today by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan around 2:30 pm. Speaking at the event, Prof Dr Ahsan expressed gratitude to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and others involved for their support.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized his hope for the construction to be completed within the stipulated time, highlighting that the new building would address classroom shortages and provide better academic facilities for students. He also underscored the importance of maintaining transparency and quality throughout the construction process.



The ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr. Sohel Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr. M AbdurRab, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Prof Dr. Md Mozammel Haque, among others. Additionally, the Chairman of the Fine Arts Department, Prof Dr. Mohammad Shamim Reza, and the project director, Prof Dr. M. M. Maizuddin, were present.



Project Director Prof Dr. M. M. Maizuddin revealed that the proposed building will be a 6-storey structure based on a 6-storey foundation, providing classroom facilities for around 1,000 students from six departments. The project is estimated to cost Tk 96 crore 96 lakh 29 thousand and is expected to be completed by June 2028.
