Istanbul: A Turkish court on Wednesday sentenced a popular political journalist and commentator to four years in prison for "threatening" President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, an NGO representing him said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court sentenced Fatih Altayli "to 4 years and 2 months in prison," the MLSA rights group stated on X. Altayli was arrested in June after discussing a poll indicating that 70 percent of people oppose Erdogan becoming president for life. In a video made for his YouTube channel, Altayli remarked on historical Ottoman Empire sultans, noting that several ended up either "assassinated" or "strangled".
