Dhaka: The government today approved a proposal to procure 50,000 metric tons of non-Basmati para-boiled rice. The decision was made during the 47th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, which took place at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting was chaired by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the proposal for the procurement was submitted by the Ministry of Food under Package-06 through an international open tendering method for the fiscal year FY26. The Singapore-based company, M/S Agrocorp International Pte Ltd, was recommended as the qualified bidder with a bid amounting to approximately Taka 216.43 crore.
The committee reviewed the relevant documents and recommended the proposal for approval. Officials noted that this import is intended to maintain adequate food grain reserves and support price stability within the domestic market.
