Dhaka: The government today held an emergency meeting with experts and officials concerned about earthquake preparedness. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting at his office in the city's Tejgaon area, according to Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was convened in response to recent seismic activities in the region, which have raised concerns about the country's readiness to handle potential earthquakes. Experts in the meeting emphasized the importance of updating existing infrastructure and implementing new safety protocols to mitigate the impact of any future incidents.
The discussion also included strategies for public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on safety measures during earthquakes. Officials underscored the need for community involvement and training programs to enhance overall preparedness.
The Chief Adviser's Press Wing reported that Professor Yunus directed relevant agencies to expedite the review of current emergency response plans and to ensure that all necessary resources and equipment are readily available. The government aims to strengthen collaboration with international bodies specializing in disaster management to benefit from global expertise in earthquake preparedness.
