Habiganj: Chairman of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen today emphasized that the entirety of the country's populace stands firmly against corruption. He made this assertion during the 192nd public hearing of the ACC held at the Habiganj Shilpakala Academy auditorium, where he served as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Momen remarked on the ACC's primary role in fostering awareness against corruption through public hearings. He suggested that if a referendum were held today, it would reveal unanimous support against corruption. Despite this overwhelming consensus, he questioned why corruption persists, pointing to a disconnect between public desires and reality. The event aimed to bridge this gap and served as an awakening program.
ACC Commissioner Miah Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi, speaking as a special guest, highlighted that service recipients possess legal rights to receive services. He noted that service providers have a legal obligation to fulfill these services, yet oftentimes, service seekers encounter difficulties in obtaining them.
The event saw participation from several prominent figures, including ACC Secretary Mohammad Khaled Rahim, Director General Md Akhtar Hossain, and Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur Rahman. Deputy Commissioner of Habiganj Abu Hasnat Mohammad Arifin presided over the hearing, where members of the public, who had faced issues with government services, presented their complaints to the ACC. Heads of all government departments of the district were present for these proceedings.
During the hearing, a total of 81 ACC-scheduled complaints were addressed. Of these, three were selected for further inquiry, 60 were resolved on the spot, and the remaining complaints will be concluded following the submission of reports.
The primary goal of the public hearing was to combat corruption by ensuring access to government services while promoting integrity, dedication, accountability, and moral values among government officials and employees. Prior to the event, the ACC engaged in extensive promotional activities throughout Habiganj, including week-long microphone announcements, distribution of posters and leaflets, booth setups for complaint collection, and information dissemination via various media.
The hearing was attended by service-providing officials and employees, individuals from various sectors, and journalists from both electronic and print media, alongside members of Scouts and BNCC.
