Dhaka: Health officials today reported a significant surge in dengue cases, with 705 new infections and two fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours. "We recorded deaths of two dengue patients in 24 hours ending at 8 am today," a spokesman of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) stated, noting that the same period saw 705 fresh dengue cases.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DGHS statistics revealed that the fatalities occurred in the Dhaka and Sylhet divisions. The breakdown of the new cases showed that 62 patients were hospitalized in the Barishal division, 116 in Chattogram division, 137 in Dhaka division (excluding the capital), 77 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 171 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). Additionally, Khulna division reported 34 cases, Mymensingh division 53, Rajshahi division 34, Rangpur division five, and Sylhet division 16.
Since the outbreak began this year, Bangladesh has reported a total of 366 dengue-related deaths and 90,969 infections. In comparison, last year saw 575 fatalities and 101,214 cases due to dengue.
