Court Orders Seizure of Tax Files of Former DEDO DG Belal

Dhaka: A court here today ordered to seize tax files of former director general (DG) of Duty Exemption and Drawback Office (DEDO) of the NBR, Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury. Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the petition stated that Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury, while serving as a public servant, did not disclose in his wealth statement submitted to the ACC the illegally obtained assets worth Taka 4.60 crore. Including the concealed amount, the ACC alleges that he acquired and possessed a total of Taka 4.97 crore in assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, for which a case has been filed.
